Sunglasses Care

Sunglasses are very important to insure that your eyes are not harmed by overly bright sunlight, and no matter what kind of sunglasses you have, you need to take good care of them so that they last for a very long time.

The rays from the sun can damage not only your skin, but also your eyes, so it is imperative to wear good quality sunglasses when outdoors in bright light. They look good, and help protect your eyes. In addition, they allow you to see without glare, making your driving experience easier and safer.

When purchasing sunglasses, you don't have to spend a fortune to get ones that have the right UV protection and UVB protection.  Also, be sure that the glasses you use are dark enough to stop the intense glare but not so dark as to affect your seeing ability. If they are so dark that you can't tell if a traffic light is green or red, you need different sunglasses.

Be sure that the sunglasses you buy are made in such a way that they cover your entire line of site as well as your eyes, without letting in glaring rays. For children, make sure the glasses offer protection against UV radiation.

Make sure that the glasses you wear allow you to see clearly, and that no part of your line of site is ever obscured.

Some tips to getting the most out of your sunglasses:

  1. If you wear prescription glasses, make sure that the sunglasses you buy can be worn with them safely. It may be necessary to get prescription sunglasses for the best vision. You can often receive a discount from your eyeglass manufacturer when you buy sunglasses at the same time as your eyeglasses. You will need to speak to your optometrist to see if you are eligible to receive prescription sunglasses.

  2. Care for your sunglasses like your eyeglasses. Make sure that you have a case for the glasses, and that you take great care not to scratch them. A soft cloth should be used to clean them, and they make special cleaners that won't scratch or mar the lenses. Never use harsh cleansers on your sunglasses.

  3. If you frequently misplace your sunglasses, you might want to purchase a neck strap that will allow you to always have your sunglasses in a safe place around your neck. This can keep you from losing them or accidentally sitting on them as well.

  4. You can buy frames for your sunglasses too that are scratch resistant, to stop you from worrying about messing up your frames accidentally.

  5. Remember to wear your sunglasses whenever you are in the sun, and this will become a good habit, and you will soon always have your sunglasses with you in easy reach.

If you take some time and effort in caring for your sunglasses, you will be rewarded with better, clearer, vision for a lifetime.
